Armageddon - 30th October 2005 - Tiff Williams

On Sunday 30th October  2005 Tiffany Williams from and trained by Chris Kent fought at Rivermead Leisure Centre, Caversham, Reading

This was originally going to be a defence of Williams's BIKMA World Flyweight Title but this fell through, and at short notice Williams was offered the chance to defend her European Superfly Weight Title against Anne Kuan from Vipers Gym, Brixton.

This was 5 x 2 Minute Rounds.

Round 1 saw both fighters feeling each other out with good ring movement and clean techniques being thrown. At the end of the first round Williams caught and hurt Kuan with a strong side kick to the body, Williams followed this up with a round kick to the body and then a punch to the head which stumbled Kuan, but Kuan was saved by the bell.

In the second round both fighters worked more inside but Kuan was effective in tying up and stopping Williams from working her trademark hook.

In the third round Williams continued to put her side kick to effective use and hurt Kuan with several powerful round kicks into the body and a strong hook to the head.

In the fourth round Williams used her reach advantage and picked Kuan off with clean hand and leg techniques, though Kuan managed to get a good right hand in.

The fifth round saw Williams opening up with a jumping side kick to the face which caught Kuan, but Kuan came back with a flurry of punches to the body and head.  Later on in the round Kuan was caught with a spinning hook kick but this seemed to spur Kuan on and she showed her grit and determination as she came back with strong hand techniques. Just before the bell Williams connected with a round kick to the body which had Kuan gasping but she held on and managed to block a further kick as the bell went.

Williams's corner were confident of their victory and this was echoed by the judges scorecard which gave Williams a unanimous decision.

Also on the bill was Novice fighter Tom Hatton from  against S.Cook from Pegasus Gym.

This was over 3 x 1 and a half minute rounds.

Cook comes from a good stable of fighters and Hatton knew this would be a challenging contest.

The fight was fast and hard with both fighters eager to stand their ground and trade having formerly met in the semi - contact ring. Hatton fought well, but lost on points to Cook who threw the more accurate combinations and pressed forward at every opportunity.
