Barry Lovett Curriculum Vitae
First started martial arts at the age of 8 in 1963 studying Judo at
the Orpington Dojo of Sensei Bill Garnett.
At the age of 12 won the first of three Southern Area Judo Championships.
Attained shodan in 1969 under Sensei George Chew 6th Dan at the London
Budo-Kan.
Educated at St. Olaves Grammar School, London, and HMS Conway Naval
Training College
After leaving the navy, worked for many years in
the Spanish haulage business
working in the UK and in Spain.
Started karate in 1989 training under Sensei Terry Robins at his Peacehaven
club along with his sons Martin and Kevin who are both black belts..
Having started karate too late in life to compete at a high level, devoted
his energies to refereeing and teaching.
Opened his first clubs in Hailsham and Lindfield in 1999 and is now
a full time professional instructor
