1970
I first started training in karate. Unfortunately, I had to stop due to the pressures of my work in security.
1976-1978
On occasions, during this period, I worked for the Kruger organization – a company based in London which promoted concert tours. I worked as personal security for Tony Bennett, Marvin Gaye and a number of other entertainers while they were on tour in the UK.
1978
I restarted my training under Chris Kent and Alan Gibson. Since 1990, Chris Kent 6 th Dan has been my instructor.
1984
Due to my background, I was head hunted by Michael and Phillip Noble (on behalf of the Noble Organization)to become the Security Manager on the Palace Pier in Brighton
1985
I became a professional karate teacher, after having taught for a number of years previously.
I am the Chief Referee to my English Association KMAC (Kicks).
I am the Squad Coach for my association and I am also the Squad Manager.
I am an English Referee and a European Judge with the European Karate Federation (EKF). I have officiated at many selections for the England Karate team. On a number of occasions I have been the chief Referee at the National British Wado-Ryu Karate Championships, for Suzuki Sensei 8 th Dan (the Head of the Wado-Ryu International Karate-do Federation (WIKF)
I have officiated at many European Championships,as a member of the England Referee team, over the last 6 years. Without the help and support I have received from the Referee team, my colleagues, and the guidance given by our England Chief Referee, Terry Pottage, I don't think that I would have advanced this far as a Karate Referee.
I have been an English official since 1992 and have also refereed at English and British Championships.
I have officiated at the following events:
The Student Universities World Championships Belgrade
2 Commonwealth Games Championships Manchester and Edinburgh
The Ladies World Cup Toulon
2 WIKF European Championships Italy and Spain
The EKF European Karate Championship Senior and Junior Estonia, Germany, Russia, Poland, Greece, Spain,
Norway, Slovenia
To date, 8 members of our association have been selected for the English National Team. Our member have also taken part in the WIKF European Karate Championships as members of the England Wado-Ryu team.
I did compete, but as I started karate late in life, my competition career was quite short. It's definitely a young man's game.
